Indeed, paragliding above Annecy lake is world famous because it offers ideal flying conditions. Every year it’s not less than 130,000 take-offs that take place in the valley !
You will find several outdoor activity agencies in Annecy which offer you different formulas for a first flight:
Discovery flights : This is a simple flight, without acrobatics, where you can admire the lake and the mountains from a new point of view. The shortest flights last between 10 and 20 minutes depending on the weather conditions but it is possible to choose other formulas with longer flight times.
Flights with acrobatics : After take-off, your instructor will do a series of acrobatic figures (360°, Wingover…) ! This flight lasts between 10 and 20 minutes depending on the weather conditions. It’s perfect for thrill seekers but a little less if you want to admire the landscape.
There are also other longer formulas according to the agencies.
A typical flight is made in 3 stages :
take-off: attached to an instructor, you will both run down a slope (after checking the different safety points of course) and take off.
Flying: sitting comfortably, it is the moment when you admire the view and enjoy the feeling of freedom that this activity provides.
Landing : thanks to your experienced instructor, you will land smoothly in one of the different landing sites provided.
The take-off points are usually above the village of Talloires, which over the years has become a bit of an internationally known paragliding capital ! Located 14km from the centre of Annecy, buses from the train station can take you there easely.

Highly recommended! I spent two months and now I can speak basic conversational french. Instructors really care about students learning to speak french. And they have a lot of extracurricular activities around Annecy. I am going back again this year!
